The MiniOpticon™ system is a compact, two-color, real-time detection platform built on the MJ Mini™ cycler. It is one of the smallest and most portable systems available for real-time PCR applications and gel-free PCR analysis. Its two-color multiplexing capability allows detection of a range of fluorophores.
In the MiniOpticon system, samples are sequentially illuminated by a fixed array of 48 light-emitting diodes (LEDs), minimizing cross talk. Emitted fluorescence is detected by one of two filtered photodiodes to ensure independent detection of both colors.
This no-moving-parts design allows sensitive detection in a small but robust package. The MiniOpticon system incorporates all the features of the MJ Mini cycler, including precise thermal control and temperature gradient capability. |

Each of these random-access, real-time, modular PCR processing units can test 16 different protocols simultaneously. Up to six units can be connected into one system allowing 96 different protocols to be run at once. Every site of the unit is calibrated optically and thermally to perform the same when programmed to run identical protocols. Systems can optimize PCR denaturation, annealing and extension temperatures, and times in a single run. Average time to results is 20–40 minutes, less than half the time of a 96-well plate instrument. Two SmartCycler® units can process an equal or greater number of samples per day than a 96-well instrument. Previous runs can be viewed and analyzed, and results can be printed while the unit is still in use. A new run can always be created and started while other runs are still in progress. |
